What Is CoolSculpting?

Categories:

The Coolsculpting is based on the cryolipolysis process for targeted reduction in fat cells using a special device. Fat tissue is more sensitive to cold than the rest of the body tissue. For this reason, the fat cells crystallize when they cool down, which leads to the breakdown of the cell membranes and their gradual death. The dead fat cells are then broken down with the help of macrophages (so-called large phagocytes). The process of breaking down the fat takes up to 3 months after the treatment. The final result can only be assessed after this time has elapsed. Up to 20 – 30% of fat tissue can be broken down during one session.

PROBLEM AREAS ARE INDIVIDUALLY VERY DIFFERENT. COOLSCULPTING IS SUITABLE FOR THE TREATMENT OF SMALL TO MEDIUM FAT DEPOSITS ON:

belly

Hips

inner thighs

Poor

Double chin

Kneel

The treatment may have to be repeated several times. Attempts should also be made not to gain any weight in the following period, as the body can still store fat.

HOW DOES COOLSCULPTING TREATMENT WORK?

A gel pad is applied to protect the skin. Then the skin area to be treated is sucked into the CoolSculpting® applicator using negative pressure and cooled down. This can be a little uncomfortable at first, but it wears off after a few minutes as the skin begins to go numb. The treatment takes about 40-60 minutes and does not cause any pain. After the treatment, the skin is reddened and hardened. This hardening must be massaged away. Subsequent numbness or more severe pain are also possible, which can be treated with painkillers.

WHICH CRITERIA HAVE TO BE MET FOR A PATIENT TO BE SUITABLE FOR COOLSCULPTING?

Due to the high stress on the tissue from the low temperatures, some indications can exclude a patient from a Coolsculpting treatment. For example, people who suffer from cardiovascular disease or connective tissue diseases should not undergo such treatment. Various skin diseases, such as eczema and dermatitis in the treatment area, also exclude Coolsculpting. Besides, the treatment area’s skin should be free of injuries and scar tissue to avoid irritation. In general, it can be said that Coolsculpting is not suitable for people who are very overweight. It is aimed at people who have small to medium-sized fat deposits that can be reduced poorly or not at all through exercise and diet. The Coolsculpting is not a method for weight loss, but only intended to tighten and shrink light love handles diffusely distributed.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF COOLSCULPTING?

The greatest advantage of Coolsculpting is that it is very tissue-friendly and non-invasive. There are no incisions or punctures in the skin, and fat is gently and naturally removed. This eliminates the possible complications and risks associated with surgical interventions.

The removal of fat using Coolsculpting is also not very time-consuming, and the patient is immediately ready for action again. The short recovery time makes the treatment particularly attractive for working people.

Another advantage of Coolsculpting is natural results. The fat cells are broken down gradually. Little by little, the love handles recede. If the fat is completely broken down, the treated area appears significantly leaner and firmer. When done professionally, there are no dents or bumps, and the fat has been reduced evenly and symmetrically. In this way, not only the upper and lower abdomen but also arms, legs, hips, buttocks, and back can be treated. It is also possible to reduce a double chin as part of a Coolsculpting. Above all, stubborn love handles, which cannot be reduced or can only be reduced with difficulty through targeted training and diet, can be removed by Coolsculpting.

WHAT COMPLICATIONS AND SIDE EFFECTS CAN THERE BE WITH COOLSCULPTING?

Coolsculpting is considered to be very low-risk and is one of the safe treatments in plastic medicine. Only bruises, redness, and slight swellings or tissue hardening can occur after the treatment. Numbness and slight sensitivity to touch in the skin of the treated areas are also possible. These symptoms usually resolve on their own within two weeks and are not cause for concern.

If done unprofessionally, Coolsculpting can burn the skin with blistering. It is also possible that the transition between cooled and non-cooled tissue is visible. The special applicator that sucks in the skin ensures that this is not the case by radiating cold into the surrounding tissue.
